GoDaddy Profits Off Your Unused Domains, Is It Fair?

GoDaddy is a arguably the largest domain name register. Yet it does something which I am not very comfortable with - make profit off your domain names and does that without your explicit permission. Previously when you wanted to register a domain name you had to provide at least two domain name servers. With GoDaddy you can register any domain name without having to specify DNS servers for it. You are not even given the option to specify your own DNS servers. So how does GoDaddy supply the required DNS servers?

GoDaddy provides its own domain name server which in turn points it to ad-filled dummy (and spammy) content-less websites. So essentially GoDaddy profits off your domains unless you decide to change the DNS server names (one domain name at a time) to your own DNS servers. This is unfair for two reasons:

  • GoDaddy should ask your explicit permission before profiting off your (paid-for) domain names.
  • At the least GoDaddy should offer a way to share the profits.

What do you think?

This for of adding PPC ads on parked domains is not unusual across domain registrars.
GoDaddy does offer a means to share the revenue. It wil cost you a small monthly fee - the amount depending on the percent share. It’s called “Cash Parking”, and one monthly fee covers all your domains in your portfolio. Only really worthwhile if you

from a business point of view it is a good idea. They are trying to make all the money they can with the domain. From users i hate it. i just bought a domain on from godaddy auction and it takes 7 days before i get it. this is what i hate.

Since you are bringing up go daddy, I’ll also list several recent findings for Godaddy coupon codes. I am an iPhone App Programmer, and these coupons come in very handy when purchasing or renewing a domain. Use Godaddy promo code ZINE3 for $7.49 .com domains and renewals. I save about $25 every time I pick up a bunch of domains. When I buy at least five domains, I also get free private registration when I use ZINE3. For other Godaddy coupons, use ZINE1 for 10% off, ZINE2 for $5 off any $30+ purchase, and ZINE25 for $25 off any purchase of $100 or more, like hosting plans. These promo codes are current, working, and do not expire. I hope these Godaddy.com promo code coupons save as much dough for the other blog subscribers as they have for my friends and I. Take it easy!
