SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- The popularity of the E books have prompted Internet search giant Google to enter the segment with its own online e-book store. However, it plans to take rival Amazon head on by not tying the collection available in its online book store to any particular E book reading device. The online book store of Google will be called Google editions. The companies like Amazon and Apple force the users to buy their respective devices to read e books purchased from their online book stores. Google thinks it will liberate the E-book readers in an unprecedented way.

Google is leaving no stone unturned to make the Google Editions a resounding success. It has scanned more than 12 million books till date so that the readers can access greater number of books from its e-bookstore compared to that of either Apple or Amazon. Since the users will be able to access the e books from Google editions using mobile phones, tablet PC and literally any web access device, the e bookstores tied to a single device will face stiff competition. Apple may come up with its own strategy to counter the Google threat in the coming days.

Amazon has tasted massive success in the E book market but now its position stands to be threatened. It is being expected that in the next few years Amazon’s share of the e book market will take a nosedive from the existing 90 % to 35% or lower. Any sector that Google enters witnesses fierce competition and the e book market is no exception.
