How To Get New Email Notification in Mozilla Thunderbird

You need to install an extension the in Mozilla Thunderbird to get new email notifications. Here is the steps in details:

1. Download the Mozilla New Mail Icon extension here. You should save the xpi file to disk.

2. Open Thunderbird and go to Tools->Add-ons and click on Install.

3. Now choose your saved extension file (with .xpi suffix) and allow the installation to proceed. After installation in complete you will be prompted to restart your server which you should allow.

Now you will see a new mail icon in your taskbar whenever a new email is available. You can also use the icon to hide your thunderbrid inbox as well as view the new emails.

Features I would like to see:

1. Ability to use it within Thunderbird filters to show the notification only for selected emails

2. Ability to display popup for certain emails like say email from your spouse or boss and preferably with different colors. How about pink from your spouse and red from your boss?
