Russian clinics and beauty salons peddling stem cell therapy

While the rest of the world is cautiously experimenting with stem cell therapy, Russian clinics and beauty salons have claimed that they are already using both adult and embryonic stem cells to treat everything from wrinkles to Parkinson’s disease to impotence.

Scientists warn that while stem cells are still being researched in laboratories, treatment by clinics claiming to use stem cells may cost patients their health and fortunes.

The key word is “may”. Experiments so far have indicated positive results in stem cell therapy around the world.

However it does pose a legitimate risk. Nobody knows what actually these patients are getting. How many of them are actually giving stem cells and how many are simply getting placebo? With such unregulated practice there are serious risk of contamination, cross-infection or worse.

Reports of success have been mixed.

The cost is around 20, 000 - 30, 000 USD, a huge sum by Russian standards.

However personally I would suggest anyone with the cash and the desire to wait for some more time till more reports of success come in from laboratories around the world.
