Update:
I am delighted to announce the release of Angsuman’s Translator Plugin Pro for WordPress 2.x blogs. It provides automatic machine translation of your blog in eight different languages - German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. If you liked my previous translator plugin then you are going to love it. It is search engine optimized, supports WordPress widgets, uses nice permalinks, super-fast (cacheable) and lots more.

I am happy to announce we are very close to releasing WordPress Translator Plugin 2.0. It is a massive rewrite which supports 2.0.x version (targeted) of WordPress along with 1.5.x (not much tested). I am looking for your help in testing this release. Currently we have it working on our test site; check the dynamic logo on top-left. All known bugs have been fixed.

Background
WordPress Automatic Machine Translator plugin has been enormously popular in wordpress community and is used on a large number of sites worldwide. It provides automatic machine translation for your blog in eight languages - Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.

In this version we are using nice url format, without messing with .htaccess or mod_rewrite, for WordPress 2.0.x versions.

The current version will support at least three format of display and lots of configurability.

Looking forward to your feedback and suggestions.

Translator Plugin Gold can easily translate from Chinese to English and other languages combinations too. Please see the matrix for the full list of supported languages from Chinese.

@Erik & Siddharth,

I am very sorry I forgot to update this post. It has been released almost a week back and very well received. I think (and hope) you will like it too.

I have everything ready. I am still waiting for the final nod from QA. I am sorry for keeping you all waiting but unless QA is satisfied it wouldn’t be prudent to go ahead. And there are lots of features to test and lots of options. Yes, it is a major leap over previous version with lots of goodies.
I know I can release it tomorrow. But I am wondering if I should give it two more days and go for Monday.
Anyway Monday is a good day for releasing.

I’d like to test it - can you send me the download link?

Thanks!

I can’t wait for it to be released. If you still need any beta tester, count me in. I’ve a few blogs on different servers (v & d servers).

filippodb,

Wait for few more days. I am in the middle of changing my server.

July 4, 2006: 4:03 am

Cinefilo,

Initially I wanted to include the capability to accomodate non-English languages. However the release is already overdue and I didn’t want to delay it further. I promise support for non-English blogs in the very next version.

Erik,

Please check my answers below:

Q 1) Will the translated pages be cached in the database somehow? I can see this creating quite a load on people’- servers if not. I guess you can use WP-Cache if it’s not….

A. You can use any php caching system like eAccelerator to cache your pages.

Even without caching it will not create much load on your servers, based on my experience with the current version of the translator.

Q 2) Will transalted pages have permalinks? It looks like it on your test server, but without being able to really play with it its hard to tell..

Yes. It will have permalinks, one for each language. Isn’t that sweet :)

James,

I will send the files to you directly.

We are done with the internal testing.

The only delay is because I am now being forced to go dedicated server route and I am in the middle of choosing a provider and switching.

I would like to help you on testing the new plugin if only I had the link to download it! ^^

July 3, 2006: 9:13 pm

It’s a excelent plugin but you would have to think to modify plugin for blogs that does not use English language, for example, in my case the Spanish.

Spanish translator babelfish only two language : french and english.

I can’t find the download link for the beta either.

I do have a couple of questions about version 2.0 for you Angsuman.

1) Will the translated pages be cached in the database somehow? I can see this creating quite a load on people’- servers if not. I guess you can use WP-Cache if it’s not….

2) Will transalted pages have permalinks? It looks like it on your test server, but without being able to really play with it its hard to tell..

June 29, 2006: 9:25 pm

Did you pull the download link, or do we have to send an email to you for the beta files?

Feature note: We fixed a lot of defects in Google translation engine for this release. We also provide a way to escape certain text from translation.
