Manufacturing Sector Performance


NEW YORK - Stocks rose sharply on Friday, giving the market its fourth straight week of gains, after a big increase in orders for manufactured goods allowed investors to shake off several days of doldrums.

WASHINGTON - The United States is selling fewer products around the world and spending more on cheap imported goods, an imbalance that hurts the job market at home and means the economy is even weaker than previously thought.

NEW YORK - Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Monday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market: NYSE Boyd Gaming Corp., up 55 cents at $9.01 An analyst upgraded shares of the casino company after it said it had decided not to buy assets of a rival.

WASHINGTON - It's a rare bright spot in an otherwise troubled economy: The nation's manufacturing sector has now grown for a solid year, and more of its companies say they're ready to hire.

NEW YORK - Signs of domestic growth are sending stocks higher.
