yahoo02 Overview:

Yahoo LAUNHcast provides free and fee based music stream as per your rating. As you sign on the application, it asks you favorite music and favorite singer. Based upon that information, it plays the music to you. You can also rate a song during the Play. It influences the decision about what song will be played in future.

The quality of most of the internet based radio stations are very poor. They only provide music with a very low badwidth, something between 20k to 30k. Other irritating thing may be the station announcements when you change your station. On the top this, you get pop ups periodically and it distracts your attention. Yahoo!Music addresses most of the issues of IRS.

Features:

The core features of LAUNCHcast are:

  • The streaming quality of most of the IRS Music is very poor. Yahoo provides bandwidth quality like “Hi”, “Med” and “Low”. “Hi” is usually reserved for subscribed customers. “Low” and “Medium” are generally for free subscribers. “Medium” bandwidth is as good as CD quality.
  • The commercial for most of the Music Video of IRS is very annoying. It comes very often, say, in every 10 min for big one and in every 5 min for small one. They are also repetitive by nature. Yahoo does not completely eliminates commercial. But, it is not as frequent as like other radio stations.
  • Yahoo incorporates variety of artists’ recorded performances with a selection of very big music library. The quality of most of the music is also very decent.
  • I tried to run yahoo music on Firefox as well as Microsoft Internet browser. Although, Yahoo music is working fine on IE, it is giving some error message on Firefox.
  • Yahoo Music is cheaper than contemporary satellite radio station.  For subscription, they charge you $2.99 a month (billed annually at $35.99) or $3.99 a moth. If you subscribe, you get the advantage of elimination of commercials, unlimited skipping, and the ‘Hi’ sound quality.
  • The maximum number of song limit is set to 600 per month and this can be an issue for people who like to listen the music all day long. There’s also a nice feature where you will get an alert when you’ve listened to 200 songs in a month.
  • The cool feature of myStation is when you set up your own station, you pick a few nice music you like, as well as some artists. After that you just sit back, and listen to the music you love. Yahoo! Music will begin to play song that it thinks that you may like and the choice is phenomenal.
  • One of the popular feature of Yahoo! Music is rating. You can rate Songs, Artists, and Albums. There are two different category for rating. The first one has 4 star system like ‘OK’, ‘Like It’, ‘Love It’, ‘Can’t Get Enough Of It’. The other one is called “Never Play Again”. It gives you the ability to keep a song from being played again.
