JAMMU AND KASHMIR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Pilgrims visiting the holy shrine at Amarnath have reason to be happy. The BSNL mobile telecom service has launched its connection at the caves of Amarnath in Kashmir thus making it easier for tourists and pilgrims visiting the holy shrine to remain in touch with their friends and relatives back home.

The new BSNL mobile connectivity which can be availed by all who make the Amarnath Yatra will enable its users to stay connected at an altitude of more than 3500 meters in the Baltal and Chandanwari cave shrines. The new initiative by BSNL mobile was launched in Kashmir by Sachin Pilot, the Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology in India. In fact it was the minister himself who made the first call using the new service from the caves of Amarnath.

A statement issued by Sachin Pilot to Governor N. N. Vohra, the Chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board says that the new service launched by BSNL mobile will provide cellular connectivity inside the holy caves of Baltal and Chandanwari, while the telecom service providers also have plans to extend their connectivity to the holy shrines in Panjtarni and Sheshnag. Considering that more than four lakh pilgrims visit the Amarnath caves every year the new initiative by BSNL mobile has received the praise of all in the country.

The government of Jammu and Kashmir too have made it a point to adopt the new BSNL mobile plan as soon as they can. The Shrine Board has already procured digital satellite phones to be used in the Amarnath Yatra 2010, the phones being installed at every holy cave in Amarnath.
