New Delhi, Feb 26 (ANI): The Centre is planning a government-sponsored scheme for e-governance in Panchayati Raj institutions.

The Panchayati Raj Ministry would provide computers and other related hardware and software to each village and block panchayats under the scheme.

Taking a step forward, an information and service needs assessment has already been conducted in this regard.

Eyeing upon building ‘generic’ software solutions that could be used by the Panchayati Raj Institutions, the Ministry is working closely with the National Informatics Centre.

There are also plans to build some software centrally.

The government has already implemented a national e-governance programme, which also includes e-governance for panchayats as a mission mode project.

The e-governance programme aspires to make all government services accessible to the common man through common service delivery outlets and ensure efficiency, transparency and reliability at a reasonable cost. (ANI)
