How to Podcast Using WordPress Blogging Software

To my delight I realized WordPress 1.5 provides an extremely simple way for Podcasting (sample).

Podcasting is seamlessly supported in Wordpress 1.5 and beyond. All it takes is to just link to an audio file in the post and WordPress does the rest.

It automatically adds the necessary enclosure tag to RSS2 and Atom feeds to make it useable as a podcast.

Only requirement is to link to the audio file using an Absolute URL like this JavaCast (Java + Podcast) on the Trig controversy and high speed Java. It uses the full URL - https://www.thepostmodern.net/blog/radio/JavaCast-20050811-EPS-003.mp3

Further details on podcasting using WordPress can be found in the codex.

If you are interested in getting podcasts on your iPod read this engadget article.

Update: After I have written this post I realized that WordPress doesn’t do any magic at least on this 1.5.1.3 blog. There are no magic enclosures added to my RSS or Atom feed. More investigation is required.
