Microsoft, Amazon cross-license patent portfolios

REDMOND, Wash. — Microsoft Corp. said Monday it has made a patent cross-licensing deal with Web retailer Amazon.com Inc.

The agreement gives Microsoft and Amazon access to each other’s patent portfolio and includes a broad range of products and technology, including Amazon’s Kindle electronic book reader.

Microsoft, the world’s largest software maker, did not give specific terms but indicated Amazon will pay it an undisclosed amount of money as part of the agreement.
