CHENNAI - The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) has said that the software industry would seek modifications in United Kingdom’s norms prescribed for overseas software professionals.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, Nasscom President Som Mittal said: “Efforts will be made to request not to implement the new UK Government visa policy which restricts the number of skilled non-EU workers to enter Britain.

“There are also certain conditions in the current policy that need to be discussed since they restrict Indian skilled software professionals in UK,” he added.

He further hopes that NASSCOM will be able to convince the UK government before new policy implementation in April 2011.

“The minimum salary requirement has gone up, we think this is going to impact the cost of sending people and cost would also reflect to the UK. There are many areas that we would work with the UK government still, because the policy as you are going to implement in April and we will be making the representation in some if the areas that are there. But I think, over all the fact there is a no cap is a welcome acceptance of the fact that we add value to what we do,” said Mittal.

He said that NASSCOM has a strong security process in place since it has many important customers and each customer provides their security guidelines, which together benefits India’s security make-up.

“India, today, does work for over 70 countries. We do work for various sensitive companies. I think it is matter of pride for us that we have very robust processes that have been put,” he said.

On cyber security, Mittal said India is not as threatened compared to global standards, yet mechanism should be implemented that nips the bud of the problem.

“We should be actually working towards zero tolerance towards any cyber crime or cyber security breaches,” he added. (ANI)
