Software trade group spent $110,000 to lobby in 4Q

WASHINGTON — The Software & Information Industry Association spent $110,000 in the fourth quarter to lobby the federal government on intellectual property protections and other issues, according to a quarterly disclosure report.

That’s the same amount that the trade group spent on lobbying in the third quarter and down from the $160,000 that it spent in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Members of the Software & Information Industry Association, which represents software and digital-content companies, include International Business Machines Corp., Symantec Corp., Saleforce.com and Adobe Systems Inc.

During the October-to-December period, the group lobbied on copyright protections for software and digital content, anti-counterfeiting agreements and patent reform legislation, according to the report filed with the House clerk’s office on Jan. 20. It also lobbied on last year’s stimulus bill, Internet privacy, the Federal Communications Commission’s national broadband plan, as well as immigration issues, tax rules and trade policy.

The Software & Information Industry Association lobbied Congress, the Federal Trade Commission, the FCC and the Commerce Department, among other government agencies, during the latest quarter.
