Summary Box: Tenn. utility offering fast Internet

THE PROVIDER: The city-owned utility in Chattanooga, Tenn., which now provides electricity, television, telephone and Internet service to more than 169,000 residents in Tennessee and Georgia.

THE NEW SERVICE: The Chattanooga Electric Power Board’s new Fiber Optics network will provide a 1 gigabit-per-second Internet service. The utility says the service is more than 200 times faster than the average national download speed today.

NOT FOR RESIDENTS: At $350 a month, the service is aimed at businesses — including those looking to relocate.
