Yahoo elects Sue James to board

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Yahoo Inc. said Thursday that it elected Sue James to its board. The move was effective Monday.

James, 63, fills one of two recently open seats on Yahoo’s board — activist investor Carl Icahn resigned from the board in October and another member, Maggie Wilderotter, had planned to leave at the end of 2009.

James, who was also appointed the head of the board’s audit committee, worked at Ernst & Young for 31 years. She was a partner there from 1987 until retiring in 2006, and worked as the lead partner or partner-in-charge on audit work for tech companies like Intel Corp. and Amazon.com Inc.

She is on the boards of Applied Materials Inc., Coherent Inc. and nonprofit Tri-Valley Animal Rescue.

Yahoo shares rose 22 cents to close at $17.12.
