I found an easier way. Do a standard search for files. parm = WGA* You will find several instances. Open the scheduler for this wga. You will most likely find it set for 'logon' Set it for 'once' and you should be saying goodbye to this pain in the ass message every day.... |
wilwad |
April 20, 2010: 7:41 am
deleting the wga* files is only a temporary solution as the wga files would be downloaded again on the next windows update. The solution would be to instead create a stub application which does nothing when launched and name it to the same name as wgasetup and then when windows restarts and looks for the wga, it would find the decoy, try to launch it and nothing happens. You can write such a program in VB 6 and have it start from sub main() and not do anything at all. |

Well, unless you have a pirated OS, it is always best to use genuine validation/authentication- the main purpose & reason is security. To be able to use & run all available updates, service packs, etc. for your system is best. Some ways around it, sure. So thank you for the tips here. But, if you really don't like Microsoft, then DON'T use their OS's. I get sick of people dogging on Microsoft & yet they use windows all the time & complain about MS. Some just love to bitch huh? Have some cheese with your wine. If not, then spend some money on Windows. Since I use MS Office and XP + mess a bit on Linux too. All these peeps want the goods, but not to pay for them & the service, if it is a good product, why not? I have absolutely nothing against MS & happen to love my Windows & will continue to for a very long time. It helps to actually purchase a genuine product, so it should benefit the user. |

It worked! Thank you SO much... I tried playing around deleting items in the registry myself, but that WGA notification kept coming back time and again... like the energizer bunny. My computer is getting a bit old and I didn't want the crap running in the background, and certainly didn't need it to constantly be phoning home to Microsoft everyday. Thanks again! |

I'd sure like to get LINUX running. However, I've found getting it to load is a formidable task. The 300 page install guideline via fedora 12 is so complex and bounces around way too much. What we need is a straight forward load instruction to deploy your CD and hard drive. The manual seems like it has 100 different ways to load LINUX, most of those options don't apply to the home / small business user. |

I've just freshly installed WINXP, and got updates enabled, so of course had to download the WGA notification tool but had not installed the tool. It would popup & ask to install on every reboot, & I would of course close it out, but still got my updates downloaded and installed. So far, those have included DOTNET 3.5, IE 8, & Service Pack 3. I didn't want to be bothered by this notification any longer, so I booted into safe mode, navigated to C:/WINDOWS/system32/KB905474 & simply renamed the "wganotifypackageinner.exe" & "wgasetup.exe" & rebotted...so far it has not bothered me! |

To get rid of the of the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification do the the following: FIRST AND FORMOST CREATE A RESTORE POINT: Start=>Run. type msconfig. go to the general tab and click on launch system restore. click on create a restore point and than next. give any name and click restore. close all windows by clicking ok and reboot your machine. 1. control panel=>add/remove program and find the line "Windows Genuine Advantage validation tool (kb892130). this is the key to find the solution. 2. go to c:/windows/ and find the file kb892130.log 3. open that log and read the lines. you will find the lines which contain the main folder and other files which you want to eliminate. 4. The name of the main folder is SoftwareDistribution which exist in c:/windows and in c:/windows/system32 5. Bootup your machine in safe mode and rename these folders. 6. click on Start=>Run and type regedit 7. go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE => SOFTWARE and find the folder Windows Genuine Advantage or SoftwareDistribution or WGA if you cant find it open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE => SOFTWARE => WINDOWS 8. delete the file. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DELETE OTHER FOLDERS. 9. reboot your machine and you should be fine. 10. if something goes wrong go to Start=>Run. type msconfig. go to the general tab and click on launch system restore. click on "restore my computer to an earlier time". find the restore point that you created and restore your compuer. reboot your machine |

ok the easyest way to get ri of it is to go to add or remove in the control panel the tick the box SHOW UPDATES un install the last update on the list of updates not the genuine notification cus u cant remove the one above it it will say it might make these programs not work properly it wont do anything except get rid of the genuine advantage notification tool, after you have un installed then restart or turn off |

Hi, looks like MS has very much changed how WGA works - just installed WinXP Pro SP2 on Dec 2, 2007, installed all updates (including WGA), followed the 3 steps, but no Reg entries or referenced files found! I searched for WGA and found different info, disabled it, and no more encrypted checks back to MS. I\'m not strong enough with Win to give a write-up so perhaps someone who knows the correct way to disable the new method will follow-up - thx. |
Saludos... |

whoa! cool! thanks a lot. DID anyone experience that their computer slowed down after the occurence of WGA? Perhaps that WGA is the reason of the slow down? Can anyone tell me a fix for that? I don't think my computer was slow before i had WGA. my PC has 1GB of RAM, 2.66 Ghz, i think... But whenever i play music then, say, open firefox or MSword, the music still plays but it slows. As in the voice of the singer/song slows, starts to sound like its in slow motion. TIPS please, would be very greatful. Thanks. CHeRRy :) |
