Tata's Photon+ offers a rather good service; other users who have commented may have been located where the higher speeds are unavailable. I haven't tried BSNL's, but their rates are lower. Vodafone does not offer 3G yet, which their customer service representatives will tell you right away. |

I agree with most of the people that Tata Photon+ is absolutely useless in terms of their claims. Their customer service is rubbish with incompetent people employed at call centers and they don't hesitate to provide incorrect/inconsistent information (only if you get through their unfriendly and boring pre-recorded system!!). Would not recommend anyone to buy Tata telecom product/services....BSNL is great...being a govt enterprise you at least know what to expect. Tata is worse than even nationalized banks.... |

I would not recommend anyone to buy Tata Photon+ or any other service. Their customer care/service is absolutely useless and frustrating. The call center employees are incompetent and provide incorrect as well as inconsistent information. The call center number and pre-recorded message system is worse than even banks and doesn't get you the right answer. Even the direct Tata sales personnel were unable to provide proper responses....extremely frustrating experience and repenting to have bought a Tata product. |

Dont go Tata Photon Plus connection. First 2 months they will give good service and then will there "natak". From last 1 week there server is down and with out intimating these people are doing there maintance. Customer support is so bad...if u tell them we are not getting the speed...we get ans that atleast ur getting the internet. The most imp things is that there hidden charges....while taking they will tell that so and so speed u will get ...this and that. but in this they have charged me for sending mails also. other than down loading....changres they also charge for sending ails also. lot of hidden charges are there. I will suggest every one to go for BSNL high speed connection. Every thing is transprent and at a very che rate. Where tata or reliance is charging Rs1000 for 5 GB....and BSNL is charging 750 and that unlimited. better go BSNL this tata service is totaly fake. |

Please don't use the Reliance Netconnect Broadband Plus. The service is very poor and speed is very less. The download speed is 2Kbps to maximum 100Kbps(rarely). Moreover they promise speed upto 3.1 Mbps not equal to. Beware of their trap and the way they make people fool. Thes things will become clear after you purchase the non refundable Modem. Then their voice tone changes so the services. Better go for Wired connection or BSNL EVDO |

Dear All I owned Reliance Broadband Plus and had worst experience. Before you purchase Modem they will promise all sort of non sense things. But the moment you purchase the non refundable Modem of Rs. 3000 (Now Rs 2500) their tone will change and so will the new rules and promises. Second thing speed is never 3.1 MBPS. See the promise carefully, it is upto 3.1 Mbps not equal to. Speed depends on the number of people using the same tower and your connectivity. The download speed varies from 5 Kbps to max 80 Kbps and average it is less that 25 Kbps. Second thing they have cunning limit of few GB download in a month added with heavy serivce tax. If you thing you will get the plan change in one day as promised or will change it from prepaid to post paid then here is reality. The Plan will be chnaged from next Billing cycle ie it takes one month to change plan. Changing to prepaid is not possible before three months of usage. So from my bitter experience please don't opt for this Reliance BB+, But go for Tata Photon + or BSNL is best. |

I bought a Tata Photon + on 31st July 2009 having number 9230040689 9230040689 and account number 934185426. After using the photon I found that speed is very very low. I contacted customer support they gave me various settiing but couldnot increase the speed. The speed I was getting was in the range of 100 to 300 kbps. This was tested from the website provided by Tata support executive. The complaint was registered vide email on august 10 2009 vide docket number 184342283. Various executive visited my house, changed various setting in the computer but could not increase the speed. They checked with 2-3 computers at various locations in house and even used their own laptop to check but of no avail. On complaining to nodal office on august 11 2009 he closed the call informing me that speed between 256 kbps to 600 kbps is Ok. and had no explanation why my Photon is working so slow. On appealling to to Applleate Authority vide no. 193074549 dated 14th October 2009 I am yet to receive any answer. I hv stopped using the connection and is running around to get my refund from the comapny, for this expensive white elephant where the ad claims speed upto 3.1 MBPs but comapny says it is not possible. Now they are only asking for the bill which they have generated without solving the problem. The 3 bills I have already paid without getting any service, they are silent about it. The complaint to Nodal Office and Apellate Authority is still pending. |

Hi Everybody, I agree that TATA guys are doing harm to their brand name and laundering money from people. And I learned it hard way. I bought a Photon+ connection but before buying I asked for a demo of it. The demo was rather satisfactory in that it showed a speed of more than 1 Mbps. So I immediately applied for a connection. But to my surprise, when they delivered me my device, it was giving me a speed of 3Kbps (claim is for 3Mbps, irony!!!). I mmediately recognized that I was being cheated by TATA guys. This is how I stablished it: For the demo, they had broght a Huawei modem and it installed the Huawei Access Manager program to connect to net and monitor statistics. But the device that they gave me was not Huawei one and it installed some crap software that looked ugly, difficult to navigate and just to know the current speed that I was getting, it connected to internet and asked me to download a 5 Mb file which means my download limit would burn too. When I called the sales manager of TATA Photon dept (Pune), they said there should not be a problem since it is 3.1 Mbps device. When I insisted that they were chaeting me, they accepted that the demo had some different device and the one that I was getting was different one. Another thing is that, when I connected to net, the netwaork that was being shown was that of Photon Whiz and not Photon+. And it never became Photon+. Apparantly, they were trying to fool me like they are fooling so many other people. Now I am following up with the authorities to get whole of my money back. Burning my time and money to get my money back. Awsome TATA!!!! Be careful guys, please research before you buy these USB modems from TATA or any other provider. This technology is not so mature in India yet and companies here are always on the look out to plunder people. After sales support is miserable everywhere. About TATA Photon+, please be sure to take the demo, ask the model that is being used for the demo and before you hand out any cash confirm that they have the demo model available in stock. Else they will give you some crap and charge moollah for that. Very few might be aware that TATA guys have various manufactures for various USB broadband modems that they offer. I bought a Photon+ connection. It has Huawei and Epivalley(not sure on this one). Huawei is for Photon+ while Epivalley is for Plug to Surf Whiz. I was being given the latter card and not the Huawei one. Beware!!!!!!! |

according to me..wait for next two to three year as this high net speed concept is new here and is waiting for more competition. It is nice that these two companies have started a new era of technology but is still far away from the level we are wondering of. I used both the connections, they are fast, but not so great to compare internet speed of any local cafe of developed countries. |

I took the reliance broadband+ connection in June 09. It was giving a speed of upto 1 Mbps for 1 month. But, for the last 3 months I am getting a speed of 60 kbps-100 kbps in evening and 200-300 kbps in early morning. This is the main problem with reliance they attract new customers and then the service is pathetic after few months. They keep on adding new customers without improving their infrastructure. They don't care for services they are providing to existing customers. I am thinking to stop using reliance broadband+ services. I am staying in Wakad, Pune. Before taking the connection go for a demo at your place during peak hours(7 pm - 11 pm) and then decide. If you don't roam then never go for reliance broadband+ take a wired connection. |

Hello people. If you ever want to go for the twinkling speedy net connects! Think twice. For TATA Photon Plus you can say TATA, Not worth your money and And for Reliance, They are not reliable at all. Both companies know only to swindle money from their customers. During launch I used TATA Indicom, its got the poorest network and I had to cancel my connection, the customer care has no cluse what product they are servicing their customers. And for Reliance which is my current netcard ever since TATA indicom was trashed is even worse. The Reliance people promise coverage to 1000's of towns and 100's of villages. But its not true. Both service providers promise 3.1mbps, but at any given time its only UPTO 3.1mbps and not the maximum speed always. You can be buying the 3.1mbps and still be surfing at 200kbps. Nobody has attained the level of 3.1mbps speed so far. People are getting carried away with advertisements. They are only making money out of we layman customers. And their service is pathetic and worse than any customer care worldwide. I had complained about my Reliance network atleast about 25 times and lost count. The customer care has done little to solve the issues. And they are very very very pathetic. They are just not ready to answer your queries and your problems are just ignored. As a next step I have addressed the issue to the consumer court, now will wait and see what happens next, if nothing works out I am planning to publish the complaint in leading newspapers and support with a half page advertorial. So people do not waste your money on these 2 boy's promises of speed to you. They are still not grown up yet to offer you speed. |

TATA Photon + is REALLY BAD. The device got deactivated with in the first month due to incorrect billing!! and they never started it even when I paid the whole amount. Customer Care is as clueless as a 2nd standard kid would be about differential Mathematics..so no point calling them and talking to them. They continued billing me even while my phone was deactivated. I now use my cell phone's BSNL GPRS to connect my laptop while roaming.. this has given me better speed and is cheaper than TATA's Photon+ ...Totally ruins the TATA brand name!! |

I have been using reliance since last month. so far my experience has been good except some nonesence act for frontline executive from reliance store, though they activated my number within 30 minutes of purchase. as far as speed is concerned the maximum till date i got is 2.89MBPS(on speedtest.net) and 2407 kbps(transfer rate 301 kbps DL and 59 KBPS UL) on whatismyip.com. on the billing side, I have been keeping a watch on my uses and I found that there is no discripencies. you can check your daily uses and keep a track of peak and offpeak uses. the best way to keep it under control is use the average data transfer per day. I use 3GB Day + 10 GB Night and my average comes to roughly 100 MB per day plus 333 MB Night use. I think if you dont download much music and movies, you will never be able to exhaust it. for example in the 12 days of 1st billing I could have used 1200 MB day plus 4 GB night , but for my surprise the total I used is 1100 MB and , yes, I used the net for 65 hours in these days, an average of 5.5 hours a day. that means in the last two three days of billing cycle I could have used 4 GB( the total unused data) and downloaded three four brillint movies like TEARS OF THE SUN. so I mean to say if you genuinely research and decide about the plan you want and later keep a constant wathc on your uses (twice a week), I dont think there is any probs. I have kept even the screenshot of my plan details and account details in case there is any discripenciy from reliance side. AND FINALLY IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO GET ALL THE THING DONE FROM A WEB WORLD OR RELIANCE STORE RATHER THROUGH CUSTOMER CARE, reson being you deal with the same person at web world, you can be in touch with Cluster head, even senior most people and all the physical proof is with you where as in the case of CUSTOM CARE, every time you call there is new person. Only if you are very lucky, you find the same guy. SO GUYS, IF YOU ARE LITTLE ATTENTIVE BEFORE GOING FOR A PLAN, I DONT THINK THERE WILL BE PROBLEM. Reliance Net connect is far better than TATA Photon plus. I cant paste all the docs here but if any body needs suggestion and help in this regard can call me on 9312479600. |

Think twice if you want to go with reliance. You must remember customer is not 1st priority at Reliance. They can bill the way they want, they can stop service any time with out notification. Service may not work correctly as described. You can not do any thing against all these. I am current subscriber of Reliance Netconnect+ Yes, it is very good broadband (wireless) for real IT business person but at cost and mercy of Reliance. When I purchased this I was promised with top up package of Rs.199 per month for unlimited night internet access (that is 10 GB data transfer). But that top up package was available to me after three month. Imagine if you are using 3.1MBPS connection 2.5GB or 5GB per month will make enough sense. During package upgrade and getting top up package I end up paying Rs. 5000 to Rs 10000 per month. On and off any time I found I am not able to connect then I use to contact reliance, then I found I need to pay usage charges since my credit limit has reached then only I will be able to access again. Some time this happen twice or thrice a month. There was no notification in this regard and usage reporting system of reliance Oh my God, it is from technology company. You need to calculate to figure out and many time you will not be able to access reports. I am currently on national level access plan. I was out for a meeting in another city and found there I was not able to connect net (it was a big problem). While I was coming back I was not able to connect from anywhere near Delhi aprrox. 40 KM to 250 KM. I contacted Reliance customer care they told those place high speed is not available in will be low speed only. I told them I was try that too but it was saying no response form remote computer. Customer care executive told me then you should have contact us at the same time, now we can not provide you solution. Whenever you see this problem that time you need to contact us. Some one ask them if some one on business meeting how will it be possible for the person to leave meeting and start getting solution from reliance. So my experience with Reliance was always so poor and every time I found they do not have any value for customers. Earlier was having 1X CDMA data card and mobile from Reliance and every time I end up canceling. |
August 27, 2009: 4:42 pm
Reliance Infocomm is quick to add new service, often without your permission as has happened in my case, but canceling a service from them is almost impossible. Frankly I have serious concerns about their ethics or lack of it to be precise. |

I bought a Reliance net connect (Hyawei)in end May. It did not work in two of my laptops running Vista. The system does not recognise the usb modem. I brought it to the dealer's notice within a week and told him to terminate my account in order to atleast save the rental. He said that Reliance would waive rental when the datacard was not working. After servicing by both the dealer and authorised service personnel, the datacard still did not work in my laptop. It did in systems running XP. I returned the datacard and asked for refund in writing on 10 July 2009. The issue is still not solved. There is no written reply from Reliance. The local reliance store person says I should pay rental for two months, ie till 24th July 2009, as they cannot waive rental as promised. I haven't got any refund for the returned datacard hardware. Apart from the Vista problem, Reliance's after sales grievance redressal mechanism is pathetic. Mohan |

Here is a major problem with Reliance HSD cards or even data cards... their network is not secure!!! After a few hours of usage... you can notice random .exe files being downloaded to your computer... common file names are "kht", "khu", ozqkdc.exe, xvnzuu.exe, etc... I finally tracked down the main hole through which these viruses come in... its when you have "shared folder" these exe's seem to get downloaded to those folders first. I have other internet connections and this happens only when I use Reliance Cards. Beware of Reliance Viruses!!!! You have been warned. Although thier product does offer download speeds of around 275KB/s... but the virus issue is a BIG PAIN!!!!! |

I own a Tata USB modem that offers rather slow speeds. So I am thinking of switching over to either the Reliance Netconnect+ or to the Tata Photon. As is clear the NetConnect+ stands out both in terms of connectivity and speed. HOWEVER can it work on BOTH a Mac and a PC/Laptop? I own a Mac Mini and a PC both of which run off a single monitor. I also own a regular Laptop (not a Macbook). How does one download the drivers or whatever for the Mac? |
