I am using this and I have asked people to test translations. So for French and Simplified Chinese are fine. Japanese is as good as it gets. Stop by and have a look, it also adds nice color to your blog. |

This works GREAT! Its an amazing tool for something as simple and necessary as reading websites across the world. Although, I have run into one issue... Subsequent navigation from the translated page will produce translated versions of your pages.My subsequent pages do not remain translated... I am yet to test this with IE and I am thinking that maybe this only works in IE, because subsequent linking also does not work on your webpage... I'll go test IE now... is this something you could fix? |

I created a set of drawings of monkeys holding flags to use for the translation bar, seen here. If you want to use the monkeys, download this zip file. Replace the table data in the plugin with the what's in the php.txt file, and you will have two rows of monkeys. Thanks for the great plugin. |

I've just made a contribution to the brain trust that created this wonderful rosetta stone. Well worth it! Bravo. But one small problem. Everything works wonderfully except for the return-to-English flag link. My self-hosted WordPress blog exists in a /blog/ subdirectory, aliased to my root index page. I've figured out how to trick your php page into retreiving the flag gifs by adding the /blog/ subdirectory, but haven't been able to figure out how to do this in order to get a translated page to return to its English version by clicking the American flag. Is there a way to make it work? |

Yes, I have been late in releasing a much awaited version as I couldn't give it time. However finally it is done. We are testing it on various of our web sites. One final thing. We are working to provide a nicer url to the translated pages. That should be done by tommorrow. After that we would spend some effort to clean it up for puplic use etc. I am really excited about this new release. It fixes all the defects in the previous versions, makes it configurable, works even behind firewalls etc. My estimate is we should be able to release by this weekend. |

I added php create_translator_bar to my blog and moved the folder to the server. I activated it and see links for each flag but no flag graphic, there has to be more to it than what the basic instructions give to display the flag but I don't get it. What am i missing? TIA. |

There is a problem with the English flag link and the call to get self url. When you are viewing a page that is translated already, it just pulls the url of the translated page, instead of the simple domain url. Might be better to simply instruct it to translate english to english. |

I am just learning to build a WP blog & found your translator. Great stuff & easy to install for a non-coder like myself. However, for some of the translations, especially the European set, the text in my sidebar becomes really small. This is not an issue in the main content area, and does not happen with any of the asian translations. Any idea how or why this is happening. I am using WP 1.5 fwiw, and on a coder intellect scale of 1-10, I'm a 1.87454. But if there's a fix, I'd love to know about it. Can you copy any reply to my email addy? TIA. It definitely indicates that cURL is not installed on your system. To test cURL create a php file (say named test.php) with the following code: <?php phpinfo(); ?> Save the file to a location accessible by your web server and invoke the file from your browser. The output should have a section for cURL like: cURL support enabled cURL Information libcurl/7.12.3 OpenSSL/0.9.6b zlib/1.2.1 Note: I will not support cURL installation issues.Unless you are willing to go for paid support :) |

@Denis I am aware of that as it was mentioned in an earlier comment. It is caused by Google suddenly deciding to add further protection to external use of their translation service. I have found a way around it, just haven't got myself to update yet. Looks like I too should be charging something for service as you do :) That will surely give me more incentive to push it forward. |

The update is coming. I fixed the single page only translation issue, working around the devious scheme of Google. I am still trying to find the best way to support other languages etc. I will support more languages this time. Now I will focus on a project and have to send an update very soon. After that I will take it up again say in a couple of days. I know it is taking some time but I promise it will be good :) |

Angsuman, forget what I wrote in comment 63.:) Until the translations become better, I think translation from dutch to english isn't an option. I just tried a few online translation services who support that translation for webpages (worldlingo and freetranslation.com) and the result is hilarious! Nice for a weblog only about comedy :). Anyway, the idea of people understanding a little bit of what my site is about outside this appr. 300x400 km land of mine, would be fantastic! |

Hello All, I'm having troubles with accented characters. If I do to google page direct and ask the post to be translated from French to English it is translated correctly. However using the plugin words with accented characters do not get translated properly. I believe this is as to do with my environment however I'm not sure what to look for. AFAIS translated pages comes up OK in my firefox browser. Try google translation services and see how your translated pages look vis-a-vis this plugins tarnslation. Try in a different browser too. |

Few things can happen. IF you don't know chinese for example, chinese pages can look like gibberish. More likely your browser is not equipped to handle foreign languages in question properly. Be rest assured the people who will need the translation will have his browser so configured. Can you post the url so I can take a look? |

Hello, thanx for the great plugin:) It installed fine and works but I notice that the translated pages all look like jibberish (wierd characters). I have cURL working properly, and am using utf-8 encoding. Any ideas? |

Ok, checked it up with the XHTML Valdidator, got a first error like this: Line 23, column 141: cannot generate system identifier for general entity "ie" ...p://216.239.37.104/translate_c?hl=en &ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&langpair=en%7Cit &u=htt And that one is following with a BUNCH of others regarding the translator part! Something is really screwed up. Don't know what to do about it though, too much for me to understand. I haven't changed anything in the translator code. Obviously there is something not matching in this theme and the plugin. |

That seems logical. Which also explains why I didn't observe any problems while testing. Have you checked whether falling dream theme validates as XHTML document? There could be some issues there. Let me know. |

One more thing, just FYI: the error message "Error on page" don't appear when I have the default theme activated, so it even has something to do with the fact that I use the falling dream theme for WP. |

I agree on that, it's still a very very good plugin :-) and I will still use it! But it must be something in the code that differ and have some meaning, from the version 1.0 to version 1.1, when it comes to the "showing wrong countryname-thing", because it shows the right names in version 1.0. So I will use the version 1.0 and just adjust the rows for the flag, that will be fine too. Thanks for the help anyway. |

Looks like Google Translator is screwing its translation here. My links looks correct. However what you are seeing as title is what Google translated it to be. And in this case they are wrong :( However look at the use case. Any user is going to want to read your blog in one language only. Subsequently he may also bookmark the translated version of the page. How many users do you think will jump from one translation to another :) IMHO this shouldn't affect real users. |

Ok, I will try to explain more exactly what happens :-) 1. The page look alright as long as you don't go to the flag section, but you only have to place the cursor over a flag and move the cursor somewhere else on the page, then you've got the text Error on page down in the left corner. (I have this problem on both lifecruiser and pooclub with both versions) 2. If you click, for example, on the italian flag and then right after that place the cursor over the italian flag, it says that it is the francese flag and on the french flag it says that it's spagnolo, which also the spanish flag says so it's 2 Spagnolo flags too. (This only with the new version) (It's good though because I've learned from this to see the difference between theese two flags, but I don't think that the users on my site will like it ;-) www.pooclub.com |

@Lifecruiser I looked at your site, couldn't find anything out of place. Can you point me to the specific case(s) where you are seeing wrong title/link? I am sure you realize that even titles get translated. So in spanish version of the site the word "Germany" will be translated too. And if your browser is unable to display in the translated version it will show strange characters with question marks etc. |

Angsuman, Even the new version got the same problem, at my testsite www.pooclub.com - with nothing modified in the code except from setting the function create_translator_bar short to True instead of the default value false. It's at the testsite I've even got the problem with the flags showing the wrong countrynames, after I've clicked one of them in the upper row. No, not using Safari. IE. Thanks for helping out :-) |

Having two minor problems with this wonderful plugin: 1. Getting "Error on page" though the plugin seems to be working on lifecruiser.com.It begin after you have been with the cursor over the flags. Version 1.0. 2. Getting the wrong countrynames-text on certain flags in the upper row when you place the cursor over it, on the flags after you've been clicking on some of them. Version 1.1 on a testsite I have :-) Thankful for any help.... |

What i don't understand is why system google uses to translate. It is obviously not systran. Are they self making one? Anyway my suggestion was why not uses Systran instead of google? If offer much more langauges to choose from. At least Chinese / Japaness / Korean are not in beta and Chinese offer both traditional and simplified. And can translate them both way!. I had something more complicated in mind.... like doing tranlation per post instead of the whole page. This way we are less likely to encounter the limit of word. And would be easier on a muti lingo site? |

Personally I haven't setup cURL, so I hesitate to advice on it. AFAIR phpinfo() showed cUrl as being installed, yet it wasn't working. They fixed it by following the cUrl manual. They informed me that they setup some SSL Library to make it work. Let me know how it goes. |

I'm getting a 500 internal server error on dumbauctions.com. I have cURL installed (libcurl/7.10.6 OpenSSL/0.9.7a ipv6 zlib/1.1.4), and I think my permissions are ok (other plugins work fine). What could I be missing? Thanks for the help! |

Well done, it's a marbellous Plugin :-) Thinking of install the translator to our website https://www.lifecruiser.com, but I installed it on a testsite first. We need help to solve a problem we got with the translator plugin. It's the default theme that is used on the testsite and the plugin installation went OK, it's translating but also shows this error message: Warning: set_time_limit(): Cannot set time limit in safe mode in /home/domain/public_html/wp-content/plugins/translator.php on line 17 Please help, we got no clue what this is about... Must compliment you one more time for this excellent Plugin and for sharing it with the rest of us. That's generous of you, thanks :-) |

You may also want to consider adding a closing slash to the end of the flags' img tags. Otherwise, activating this plugin will break validation. ^_- |
