Exactly, whenever you deal with JSON, you need to be aware if you trust your source. Especially if you intend to eval a property. To your point though, you mention the indexed item. I agree with this, which is why I mentioned more detailed string parsing of the query string. To your example, I would suggest writing your query as “channel.items[0].title”. The code I gave only works with two constraints:… |

It is a simple plugin that adds a short copyright notice to the footer of each feed entry. By default, this notice warns users that, if they are reading the content on any site other than the original, the person is guilty of copyright infringement. However, the plugin can be trivially modified, even by a non-coder like myself, to say just about anything else, including express a Creative Commons License. |

I’ve never heard of that anti-creationism group before, and what’ll probably happen here is it’ll backfire on the creationist group, creating more publicity for people they perceive to be a threat - thus ensuring that more people will check the other group out, and MAKING them more of a threat. Not to mention the legal trouble the creationist group is liable to get into over this. |

WordPress & NewsReaders have a combined issue. When posts are not changed, WordPress issues a “Not Changed” HTTP header(304?). So even if you ask your Feed Reader to refresh/update, it ignores you and continues to show the old feed. So while I was testing I repeatedly deleted my feed from the feed reader and added it That might be why you were having a problem in veiwing the copyright. |

Janice put the finger on the problem. And, for a lady, it may be an improper gesture, but it’s definitely warranted and well applied here. Microsoft showed a UI implementation to a bunch of journalists and claimed that’s Windows 7. If that’s Windows 7, Microsoft’s future is in greater trouble than anyone outside the inner circle in Redmond realizes |

Hello, I have this question. Is there a way to create a ‘white-list’ of IP addresses or domain names authorized to display in their websites/blogs the articles that one writes? I ask because I wouldn’t like the copyright notice to appear on those sites/blogs that I’ve authorized to syndicate my content. Or better yet, to have a copyright notice stating something like this: “this site has the authorization of blog.example.com to display this article” or something like that so that your content would still be protected. Well, I guess this was more a suggestion than a question… but, would something like this be possible?a |

It is a simple plugin that adds a short copyright notice to the footer of each feed entry. If I’m understanding the PHP correctly, the Copyright date shown will be the current year - the year in which the feed was generated. But I’m thinking that a more desirable behaviour would be for the copyright year to be that in which the article was written. They might not always be the same (esp just after the year date changes). By default, this notice warns users that, if they are reading the content on any site other than the original, the person is guilty of copyright infringement. Your technical page has a download link in the Download section, but it does not mention the patch that is given in a link at the top of the Technical page. So, does the Download section’s download link give us the patch too or are we to download both? However, the plugin can be trivially modified, even by a non-coder like myself, to say just about anything else, including express a Creative Commons License. |

This is fabulous. I hope you don’t mind, I’ve used it on my end to insert non copywrite related text but obviously kept your ‘plug’. Question is, do you think it would be hard to trigger a different spot of text depending on the category of the post? I’ll have a play myself but I’ll likely break it. |

If possible, it would be great if you can add an option for us to turn it on or off for extracts. I don’t mind providing a good bit of text, say 50%, as an extract, but to provide this much, I would want a copyright displayed. If not, it is still a great plug-in. |

Hi Angsuman Thanks for this useful plugin! I’ve just been customising it a bit, and I was wondering about the behaviour of the “date” section. If I’m understanding the PHP correctly, the Copyright date shown will be the current year - the year in which the feed was generated. But I’m thinking that a more desirable behaviour would be for the copyright year to be that in which the article was written. They might not always be the same (esp just after the year date changes). I wonder if there is a way for the plugin to call the date of the article instead? might look into that myself, but anyway, thought I would mention it here too. cheers Jennifer |

Well, I guess this was more a suggestion than a question… but, would something like this be possible? Thanks! Jon |

[...] An example of this can be found on the feed for the blog “Tom Raftery’s I.T. Views”, which uses a Wordpress plugin created by Angsuman Chakraborty, and reads as follows: “This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. If you are not reading this material in your news aggregator, the site you are looking at is guilty of copyright infringement. Please contact [email withheld] so we can take legal action immediately.” [...] |

[...] Due to an overwhelming response of one to zero, MacManX.com’s RSS and Atom feeds are now presented in full HTML glory with a little bit of added copyright protection spice from Angsuman’s Feed Copyrighter Plugin. As these new full content feeds will allow my content to be “re-blogged” by certain content-stealing sites, I have taken a more robust approach to hotlink protection. All approved domains will be able to display images from my feed and follow links to my media files, but all other will simply display broken images and trigger 403 (Access Denied) errors when attempting to link to my media files. Regular news aggregators are not affected by this, but online news aggregators are. The current approved domains are MacManX.com (of course), bloglines.com, newsgator.com, and rojo.com. If you are reading this post in your news aggregator and cannot view the image below, please contact me via the comments section or email, and I will attempt to approve your aggregator. Thank you, and enjoy the full content feeds. [...] |

Would it be difficult to not have the copyright message included in every feed item but just every ‘n’ items or perhaps only once per feed refresh? |

@John
This is due to a limitation of WordPress hooks. Not sure if WP team has rectified it in the latest release; will check. |

Angsuman: Thanks for confirming the plug-in not working on extracts. If possible, it would be great if you can add an option for us to turn it on or off for extracts. I don’t mind providing a good bit of text, say 50%, as an extract, but to provide this much, I would want a copyright displayed. If not, it is still a great plug-in. |

@John No. That is because of limitations of WordPress. @Reno No problem. Thanks for keeping the plug > do you think it would be hard to trigger a different spot of text depending on the category of the post? I can do it. What exactly are you looking for and why if I may ask? |

Does this plug-in work when your feed only sends out extracts? I would still prefer people to visit my site, so I only include about half of the posts in the feed, and the copyright does not show for me. |

This is fabulous. I hope you don’t mind, I’ve used it on my end to insert non copywrite related text but obviously kept your ‘plug’. Question is, do you think it would be hard to trigger a different spot of text depending on the category of the post? I’ll have a play myself but I’ll likely break it |

@Tom So while I was testing I repeatedly deleted my feed from the feed reader and added it That might be why you were having a problem in veiwing the copyright. Let me know if that solves your problem. |

It is working? Great. I’m using NetNewsWire Lite 2.0b41 and the notice doesn’t appear in that for my blog but James, yours does! Hence I thought it wasn’t working on my site. Apologies for that - must be a NetNewsWire Lite issue (?) |

Not a problem, Angsuman. ^_^ I’m glad that you released it, this is something that the WP community has been continually asking for. Unfortunately, I’m running into some troubles that may or may not be related to the plugin. Most of them are actually related to WP in general. I’ll blog on that in a bit. Would you mind contacting me via email if you can? Comments are such an informal way to communicate these days. |

Thanks MacManx for the appreciation and for encouraging me to write the plugin. |
