Yes. this isn't any hoax and it is true. According to browser vulnerability research by Secunia, (PDF) 115 security vulnerabilities in Firefox were reported in 2008—nearly twice as many as IE and Apple Safari combined. Wait, don't just close your Firefox yet. I can assure you that its still better amongst the worse ones. Firefox, despite having so many vulnerabilities, patches them twice as fast as Microsoft does.
