NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- India’s biggest mobile service operator Bharti Airtel has announced that it will start selling the much anticipated Apple iPhone 3GS in India. The sales start from today. It will be sold in 16GB and 32GB capacities and the users get the choice of picking between the white and black models. The price continues to be steep and it is hard to predict how many buyers will be interested to buy it, considering the price sensitive nature of the Indian customers. The 16 GB model will sell for Rs. 35,500 and the 32 GB model has been priced at Rs. 41,500. One can get a spanking new laptop for this price in the country.
Airtel however will not discontinue the older iPhone 3G model from the Indian market as the company has said. Starting from the date of purchase, Airtel will offer the buyers of iPhone 3GS, 500 MB data per month for free. It will be offered for a 12 months. The iPhone 3GS has some improvements over the earlier model. It boasts of better battery performance. The camera has also been upgraded to 3.2 MP and now it has autofocus and video recording. However, to tap the full potential of iPhone 3GS, it is essential to have a 3G network in the country. Airtel is yet to start 3G service.
As usual, the iPhone 3GS will be sold from Airtel authorized stores and the phone will be SIM locked. The geeks may be happy at this development but considering Apple will release new iPhone version in the IUS soon, the iPhone 3GS may not create much stir in the market.
