Bertarelli: Alinghi may sail next America’s Cup
GENEVA — Alinghi is considering challenging for the America’s Cup it lost to BMW Oracle Racing last weekend.
But after 2½ years of legal disputes with the new champion, Swiss team president Ernesto Bertarelli said Wednesday he wants the rules to be fair.
Bertarelli said if there’s a protocol and someone represents his team so that it has a chance to win, he would consider participating. He added there needs to be a strong group of challengers.
Alinghi, the champion in 2003 and 2007, lost the Cup after U.S. challenger BMW Oracle completed a 2-0 sweep of the match race Sunday in Valencia, Spain.
