NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The challenger to the cheapest 4 wheeler on the Indian roads is going to arrive shortly. India based automobile manufacturer Bajaj auto which is known for its two and three wheelers is going to step into the passenger car segment. It is going to start manufacturing an ultra low cost 4 wheeler car aimed at the two wheeler owners looking forward to cheap family cars. It will be manufactured under a joint collaboration with French carmaker Renault and Japanese auto giant Nissan. The car whose estimated street price is going to be a tad more than the psychological 100000 level is going to be pitted against Tata Nano. Rajiv Bajaj, the MD of Bajaj auto said that its price would not exceed $2,500. Carlos Ghosn, the CEO and chairman of Renault also announced about the car at the company’s shareholders’ meeting.

Incidentally, Renault announced the Bajaj car just after pulling out of its venture with Mahindra & Mahindra in India. The Tata Nano which was launched a year back with much fanfare got a lot of media hype but the sales have not exactly been record breaking. One can find it in Indian metros though nowadays. It is priced in excess of 100000 INR. The price of the Tata Nano starts from 123000 INR and goes up to INR 172000.

The Bajaj car will offer better mileage compared to the other compact cars in India and it will have a low maintenance cost. The car will hit the streets of India in 2012. The car will be a tad smaller compared to Maruti Suzuki alto which rules the Indian small car segment.
