Re: Brahmos Missile

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The vertical-launch edition of the BrahMos super sonic cruise missile was launched on Sunday with much success from the coast of Orissa. The launch of the BrahMos missile was immensely significant for India as with the test fire, the country became the first nation across the world to release a ‘manoeuvrable’ supersonic cruise missile. The BrahMos missile have been developed in collaboration with Russia.

It has been revealed that the BrahMos missile was released from Naval Destroyer INS Ranvir around 11.30 in the morning and the missile was successful in hitting its target, which was kept at a distance of 290 km in the Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Orissa. After being fired, the missile reached a height of 200 meters vertically, then moved in supersonic speed in the horizontal direction before it was able to crush into the target ship INS Meen. While divulging details about the landmark missile launch, A. Sivathanu Pillai, the chief of BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited added that the mission turned out to be a huge success as it has been confirmed that the decommissioned vessel has suffered severe damage after being smashed with the BrahMos missile.

The recent launch is being considered to be highly significant as ‘vertical launchers’ are fixed under the deck of the warship which is extremely useful as it shields it from atmospheric changes as well as enables it to be fired from any direction. Meanwhile, President Pratibha Patil as well as the defense minister A.K. Anthony have applauded the researchers for carrying out the BrahMos missile launch with perfect precision.
