BrahMos Sees Successful Vertical Launch

Bhubaneshwar, India (GaeaTimes.com)- On Sunday, India test-fired its supersonic cruise missile BrahMos, which hit the target ship INS Meen placed 290 km away without any fault. The missile was launched vertically from the INS Ranvir, which was placed in the Bay of Bengal. The test fire was done at 11:30 AM. The BrahMos missile was made by the collaboration between India and Russia.

The successful BrahMos test has put India among the one of its kind nation to possess a supersonic cruise missile that can be regulated. The missile was able to make the expected damage to the target warship. The chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd, A. Sivathanu Pillai, has called the Sunday’s mission a perfect one and described the hit as perfect. Senior Naval officers who were present during the test-fire marked it as a “landmark event”. The supersonic cruise missile BrahMos can hit a target any where in between the range of 290 Kilo Meter and flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach. It can hit any target placed at any of the 360 degree range of the war ship.

The supersonic cruise missile matches the world standard and will be placed at the deck of the Warship. This will protect the missile from adverse atmospheric conditions. The new BrahMos missiles have proved that it can be launched both in inclined and vertical plane from the warship. The BrahMos missiles scientists were congratulated by President Pratibha Patil and A K Anthony, the Defense Minister of India. President Pratibha Patil sent a separate congratulatory message to the team of scientists.
