NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Competition in the small car segment in India is becoming more intense with time. In order to grab a pie of the compact car segment which has been dominated by leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki, international carmakers are entering the market. 2010 has witnessed the launch of some exciting small car models from the stables of various car giants like GM and Volkswagen. The latest to join the race is Ford Figo. It sent the expectations of the car buyers soaring when it was first announced. After a long wait the model was officially launched on Tuesday in India. Ford has wisely unveiled both petrol and diesel versions of the model in India.

The Ford Figo has been priced quite aggressively by Ford to take on rivals like Hyundai’s i10 and Chevrolet Beat. The petrol version of the Figo has a price tag of INR 3,50,000 while one can buy the diesel model for approximately 4,50,000 INR. Nigel Wark, the Executive Director of Ford India who looks after its sales and service and marketing division said during the launch that with Ford Figo, Ford enters the highly competitive and lucrative small car segment. The earlier models of Ford which were launched in India all belong to the sedan or midsized car segment.

Ford claims that the Ford Figo is highly fuel efficient. As per the claims of the company, the Ford Figo will run for over 15-17 km per liter. Toyota and Nissan also have plans to launch small cars for the Indian market in the near future.
