NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Ford India seems to be on an expansion overdrive. Barely a month after opening a lot of new dealerships across India the company launched its much hyped small car Figo in the Indian market. Not only that, the auto industry experts are of the opinion that it may launch a new and revamped version of its popular midsized model Fiesta. The new generation Fiesta hatchback is doing good business in the overseas market and the feedback of the model currently selling in India are also pretty good. The company has not made any official announcement on the issue so far. If the new Fiesta is launched in the Indian market it will be pitted against rivals like Honda Jazz and the revamped Indigo Manza.
The Ford Fiesta sells in various countries including Japan, Australia, and the USA etc. The Fiesta model that is being sold in the USA is the sixth generation model and Ford may launch in it India too. The company has Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan as the brand ambassador for its Fiesta model in India. The company has reported strong sales in February. In the last month it sold 3223 units, a jump from 2636 units that it had sold in February 2009.
As of now, the company wants to make a foray into the fiercely competitive compact car segment which is in control of Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors. Ford India is doing well amidst the crowd of MNC automakers but this year it has resorted to aggressive pricing and marketing strategies to improve its market share.
