How to run Synergy on CentOS 64 bit

synergy-plusFew days back, I managed to hack 32 bit Synergy executable to run on CentOS 64 bit, without having to install the 32 bit libraries in your system. I was about to post it when suddenly it stopped working, after successfully working for several days. Most likely because I was playing around with optimizing the system and cleaning up unnecessary libraries.

I needed a better and more robust solution to run Synergy from CentOS 64 bit and suprisingly it was just a proper Google search away.

The original Synergy project, which allows you to manage multiple computers from a single keyboard & mouse, works perfectly on 32 bit windows & linux. Unfortunately the project authors didn’t release a much-needed 64 bit version.

Synergy+ comes to the rescue. Hosted in Google code, “Synergy+ (synergy-plus) lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, without special hardware. All you need is a LAN connection. It’s intended for users with multiple computers, where each system uses its own display.”. Pretty much the same things as Synergy. In addition it fixes lots of important  bugs in Synergy and it also provides a 64 bit rpm that I was so desperately searching for.

So the solution is to just download and install Synergy+ rpm for 64 bit operating systems.

Note: What the picture doesn’t tell you is that any of your computer can be the server and any of the others can be your client.
