GENEVA, SWITZERLAND (GaeaTimes.com)- The attempts of the researchers and scientists involved with the CERN project to run the Large Hadron Collider to its maximum energy level hit a roadblock today after a power glitch was found in the gigantic underground particle accelerator. However, it was fixed later and the test turned out to be a success. The LHC, the largest particle accelerator ever built is located on the outskirts of Geneva. The machine is underground and it covers several kilometers. The CERN scientists expect that they will be able to probe the details of dark matter and Higgs Boson or the God particle using this mammoth device. They want to simulate the condition, using the LHC that was there when the universe was created after the big bang.

The glitch detected at the Large Hadron Collider had delayed the experiment but the researchers fixed it soon. The LHC developed another major snag earlier in 2008 which led to the postponement of experiments by a year. The CMS project that is a part of the LHC initiative has several scientists and researchers in it. It is a very complex scientific apparatus which cost a fortune to be built. After the initial tests are conducted the device will be kept shut for a year so that the final experiments can take place later.

The Large Hadron Collider has also a fair number of detractors. When the first series of proton beams were collided using the device, some people said that it will bring the doom for the planet. However, experiments carried out on the LHC may not always yield the desired result.
