Alinghi reveals America’s Cup spying case

America’s Cup champion Alinghi has released a French police document in which an employee of rival BMW Oracle Racing admits gathering information about the boat the Swiss are secretly building for a rare head-to-head showdown.

Alinghi says French and Swiss police continue to investigate the actions of Jean Antoine Bonnaveau, who identifies himself as a member of BMW Oracle Racing’s design team. The transcript of a hearing at a French regional judicial police department was included in an affidavit filed with the Supreme Court of the State of New York in an ongoing tussle over specifics of the next America’s Cup.

Bonnaveau confirmed in a phone interview with The Associated Press that he worked for BMW Oracle Racing, but declined further comment.
