CNN Competition For Indian Citizen Journalists

Eligibility
To be eligible for CNN Citizen Journalist Award, a participant:

1. must be a citizen and resident of India;
2. should not be a professional journalist, a freelance journalist or an employee of any media / publishing / broadcast or online news organization; and
3. must be more than 18 years of age.

How can you compete for CNN Citizen Journalist Award?
The winner of the Competition will be chosen from among those persons who, prior to 30 September 2006. have submitted to Indian television channel CNN-IBN any digital photograph and/or video file relevant to general news and current affairs highlighting a social issue in India.

You can submit your digital photograph or video by writing CJ followed by your story and send SMS to 2622 or send MMS to 9873544444 using your mobile or e-mail your story to citizen@ibnlive.com.

When will the winner be selected?
By 30 November 2006, the Competition judges will choose as the winner.

What are the awards?
The Winner will win: the title ‘CNN-IBN Citizen Journalist of the Year’; a trophy with the citation; a digital camera; and a cash prize of Rs. 20,000.

CNN-IBN’s definition of citizen journalist is not bloggers as we would normally think. They define citizen journalists as anyone who documents in pictures or videos, anything around them that should be brought to the nation’s notice. And to be eligible for the award you have to submit the photo / video to them by 30th.

Sumamry
This is a marketing gimmick to make their concept of getting free submissions of photos and video, from common people (for free), more popular. Nevertheless if you are MMS type, this could be your chance for some fame, money and recognition.
