Summary Box: Cisco revenue misses expectations
ON THE MEND: Cisco Systems Inc., the world’s largest maker of computer networking gear, said revenue rose 27 percent from a year ago, and net income jumped 79 percent, as business bounced back from the recession.
GREAT EXPECTATIONS: Analysts had expected even higher revenue after a couple of strong quarters. But Cisco said it hit a weak spot in mid-June, as the European debt crisis was at its worst.
SHAKY OUTLOOK: Cisco expects the current quarter’s revenue to grow 18 percent to 20 percent from a year ago. Again, that’s good, but not as good as analysts were expecting. Customers are very uncertain about the growth rate in the U.S. economy, CEO John Chambers said.
