Summary Box: Dell 2Q net income rises 16 percent
THE NUMBERS: PC maker Dell Inc.’s net income jumped 16 percent to $545 million, or 28 cents per share, in the fiscal second quarter as businesses replaced aging technology. Revenue climbed 22 percent to $15.5 billion.
BIG BUSINESS: Dell’s bread and butter is selling technology to companies. Businesses spent more on PCs for employees, as well as on servers, storage and technology consulting services, compared with the previous year.
LITTLE GUYS: Revenue from consumer PCs was flat from a year ago, and Dell says the back-to-school season has been weaker than expected.
