The plan to create exclusive domain name .xxx for adult websites resurfaced. It was rejected three years back by internet regulators. The net’s governing body Icann is going to reconsider new domain. Icann backed off previously after giving permission for the new domain due to protest from US conservative group for moral ground. As per Stuart Lawley, chairman of ICM Registry, if the plan is approved then it will go on sale by the end of this year.
Hoever, the scheme is not mandatory for Adult website. They can still use .com domain name as per their choice. Recently, a board comprising retired judges at the International Centre for Dispute Resolution argued that Icann’s decision to reject the .xxx plan was “not consistent with the application of neutral, objective and fair documented policy” and should be further reviewed. Now, ICann is going to reconsider its decision for .xxx domain on its 12th March meeting.
A member of Icann said that he is not sure what decision the committee is going to take. But, chances are very low that Icann is going to reject the new proposal this time without consulting other members of Icann and the internet community. The latest news coincides with other exciting news that the most valuable domain sex.com will go on auction in New York on 18 th March with starting price from $1m (£670,000).
