Previously I described how to remove the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification Tool. It is a simple tool to get rid of the home calling of Windows Genuine Advantage notification tool. Obviously it also disables the regular “This copy of Microsoft Windows XP is not genuine” type warnings if it feels your copy of windows is not genuine. There is also a manual way to remove WGA notification tool available from internet -

Kill the process wgatray.exe in Windows TaskManager (Select it then right click and select End task) and restart Windows XP in safe mode. Now delete the following files:

Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\windowss\system32
Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\windows\system32\dllcache

Start Windows Registry editor and delete the folder “WGALOGON” located in the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinlogonNotify.
Delete all references in your registry to WgaTray.exe (repeat search using F3 function key).

I have a problem that probably has quite a simple solution though I have no clue what it may be. :) When I go to delete the WgaTray.exe file from C:/WINDOWS/system32 it tells me this:

“Cannot delete WgaTray: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.”
I believe it all starts with not being able to kill the process from TaskManager. Thus, the process and file are currently in use. Now, I have tried the unlocker program also. NO luck. Help!!

Remove Windows Genuine Advantage (Download Latest Version)

This version removes cleanly both WGA Notification ‘Pilot’ version and ‘Final’ version, it should theoretically not be needed anymore to directly unload the WGA notification in live from memory and to risk a blue screen (BSOD)….

will not be displayed
