Music industry stopped their hunt on students two yrs back who downloaded music illegally from the net. The record industry left the indictment to the school authority. In Georgia, first offense is punishable with a friendly warning, while subsequent offense can ban you from using campus computers. But, security analyst Dorin Dehelean went extreme. He was arrested earlier this month for blackmailing a student who downloaded copyrighted music. Dehlean was fired immediately after his arrest. He was charged with felony and may be imprisoned for 10 years.
Dehlean didn’t report the incident to the school. On the contrary, he called the student on Jan 25th and asked her that she was downloading music illegally. He further said that he can let it go if the girl can pay him decent amount of money. However, the student answered that she didn’t have money. Eventually, an undercover cop made the monetary transaction with Dehlean in guise and caught him red handed. Although, more student may be the victims of Dehlean, they are not willing to come forward out of fear for illegal downloading.
