eBay to close Vancouver customer service facility
SALT LAKE CITY — Online marketplace operator EBay Inc. said Tuesday it will close its Vancouver, Canada customer service facilities by Sept. 30, affecting 700 workers, in a move to consolidate its North American customer service plants. The company plans to expand the work force at its Salt Lake City facility, which currently employs more than 900 customer service agents, and at certain other facilities globally.
EBay said it doesn’t anticipate any disruption to service as a result of the move. EBay’s customer support operations within its payments and communications businesses, PayPal and Skype, will not be impacted, the company said.
Shares of eBay rose 45 cents, or 2.7 percent, to close earlier at $17.19.
