Domain Name Servers resolves domain names to IP addresses. However how can you resolve the domain names of the domain name servers? For examples our domain name servers are at ns1.taragana.com and ns2.taragana.com. They resolves the domain names of all our sites like blog.taragana.com or stemcell.taragana.net. But how can we resolve the domain names ns1.taragana.com and ns2.taragana.com to their IP addresses?

This mapping / name resolution is provided by your domain name registrar. We will discuss the procedure for two popular domain name registrars - GoDaddy (what a branding!) and Network Solutions.

How to register your own name servers with GoDaddy

1. Log in to your Account Manager.
2. From the Domain Names menu, select Manage Domains. The Domain Control Center opens.
3. In your list of domain names, click on the domain name you want to modify. The details for the selected domain display on the page.
4. In the Host Summary section, click View/Modify Detail.
5. Under Set Hosts, enter your nameserver Host names, along with their corresponding IP address, and click OK.

How to register your own name servers with Network Solutions

1. Log in to your Account Manager.
2. Click on Domains and then select Manage Name Servers.
3. Enter the name server you want to create or edit (for example: ns3.taragana.com) and click on Go.
4. Enter the IP address of the name server and click on Go.

Note: You may have other domain names on these name servers that are not registered with Network Solutions. GoDaddy doesn’t provide this facility. It has a potential for abuse.

Great stuff.
What If I enter my static IP as name server for my domain directly, will that work ?

(i.e,
I’ll replace ns1.example.com with my IP, when I register a domain).

Is this make any sense?

Hello I am just looking around many different websites that offer domain names. Well this is rediculous on how many people out there charge you for so many items that don’t need to be bought and still get the same quality as the paid for sites. I have found out that all you need to really pay out is max $10 year and no more for any product on domain names. And you can get free hosting, website design programs, free personalized emails, free blog account, and free online picture site. ALL WITH A $10 PAYMENT. So don’t waste your time on paying anymore for what you need unless you are running a huge website. And still it shouldn’t cost more than $89.00 Year.
