Renault Nissan Chennai Plant Unveiled

CHENNAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The year 2010 is being considered very important for the global automakers that have a presence in India. Renault Nissan has grand plans for India up its sleeve and that explains why the company inaugurated its Chennai plant yesterday. The CEO and chairman of the company Carlos Ghosn was present at the event and it was also attended by the leading politicians of the state. The car making facility is located at Oragadam in Chennai. It has been revealed by the company that this plant will be used for making cars based on its much touted global V-platform. Nissan has used its global V platform to make models in the international market and it has received great response overall.

The inauguration ceremony of Renault Nissan’s Chennai plant was attended by M Karunanidhi, the state chief minister, M K Stalin, the deputy chief minister, Yoshiro Mori, Japan’s former prime minister. It has been announced that the plant will start churning out the much awaited Nissan Micra model within the next two months. The car is likely to hit the dealership centers by July. Not only that, Micra will also be exported to other continents like Africa and Europe. Already Rs 2,300 crore has been invested in this car plant. It can produce 400,000 units per year.

The Chennai part of carmaker Renault Nissan may also produce a SUV based on the V Platform later apart from the Micra. The CEO Carlos Ghosn also said that the company is looking forward to make a new small car in near future.
