SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- The Mac users have reason to be excited today. Valve announced some time back that it would bring Steam its hugely popular game store and community for the users of Apple Macintosh computers. Steam for Mac is arriving today as Valve has confirmed. To the delight of the Mac owners the company has also announced that a number of titles would be available from the day one of the launch. Valve has made it clear that Torchlight and Portal will be among the titles that will be made available first. However, many more game titles for Mac will make their appearance shortly and this will answer the prayer of the FPS lovers who own and use a Mac instead of a PC.

Compared to the Windows and consoles like PS3 the Mac still has a limited number of games available. The arrival of Steam for Mac will change the situation for the better. While Torchlight may not enjoy a huge popularity like Half Life 2 but it has garnered much critical acclaim. Steam made its debut in 2004. It is a digital distribution system that enables PC users to buy games and then download them which is different from purchasing a boxed copy from a shop. Almost 1000 game titles are available under this system. Valve says there are more than 25 million users of Steam all over the world.

Valve has made a number of FPS and strategy games for the PC and consoles. The titles that will be offered will be compatible with Valve’s Steam Play system meaning they will run on both Windows and Mac.
