Summary Box: AP review looks at Bing, Yahoo search
DIFFERENT SEARCH RECIPES: Although they have been drawing upon the same Internet search technology since August, Yahoo’s U.S. website and Microsoft Corp.’s Bing are still cooking up slightly different results.
THE MOTIVE: Even as they team up against Google in search, Yahoo and Microsoft are still competing against each other for traffic because that affects what company makes the most money from the ads appearing next to results.
THE DISTINCTIONS: An AP review found Bing usually offers more photo and video thumbnails. Yahoo excels on requests about entertainers, star athletes and sports teams.
