Sun posts $147M loss as Oracle deal looms
SAN FRANCISCO — Server and software maker Sun Microsystems says it lost $147 million in the April-June period as sales dropped 31 percent.
The numbers reflect what might be Sun’s last full quarter as an independent company. Oracle Corp. has agreed to buy Sun for $7.4 billion in a deal that still needs approval from European antitrust regulators. A decision could come any day now.
Sun lost $147 million, or 20 cents per share, versus a profit of $88 million, or 11 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Sun’s uneven financial performance since the dot-com collapse was a major reason the company was pressured by investors to put itself up for sale.
Sales fell to $2.63 billion.
Analysts expected a loss of 19 cents per share and sales of $2.37 billion.
