Twitter Rises Above Digg’s Market Share, What’s Next?
By Angsuman Chakraborty, Gaea News NetworkTuesday, January 20, 2009
We all knew this is gonna happen some day, but not so soon! Twitter has actually reached and overwhelmed Facebook in case of market shares. Hitwise reported that as of Tuesday, Twitter, the popular microblogging service, had for the first time surpassed the market share of visits of the hit content aggregation site, Digg. According to Hitwise, Twitter now stands at number 84 in its Computers and Internet category, one space up the chart from Digg.
What could possibly be the reason for such a significant boost? Two events acted as catalysts in this remarkable improvment, - The miraculous air-plane landing at Hudson and Barack Obama’s journey to White house. Distinct they are, but that proved once again the versatility of social media networks and Twitter proved that it is at par with the very bests now.
Though the user base of twitter (4.4 Million) is nothing in front of Digg (34.4 Million). but that speaks volumes about Twittere’s passion to stick to their service. There is no prize for guessing to whom this 2009 social media network award is going to.
Twitterers be happy. And diggers, what do you say?
