Wikipedia Down Due To Power Outage

LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- Wikipedia, one of the most popular encyclopaedia was down yesterday for power outage leading to difficulties for the internet users. The site, which is famous for information access and also where the users can contribute and edit was not accessible in the morning. The organization later released a statement in the reputed social networking site citing the reason as power “outage” in the Florida center.

Wikipedia is the renowned encyclopaedia of the Wikimedia Foundation and the technical difficulty faced by the site leading to its down server made the users helpless for sometime as they were not able to consult and take information from there. Whenever the users tried to connect to their information site, they got the message as “”Sorry! The site is experiencing technical difficulties” and then they were shown a blank page or a reloading signal. The Wikipedia officials later released a statement in the social networking site Twitter where they apologized for the difficulty but the reason was unknown. After two hours they tweeted again thanking the users for being patient and then cited the reason as power “outage” in Florida and assured the users that the site is slowly “coming” back online.

Wikipedia faced a similar kind of problem back in March 24, where the server was down for sometime due to overheated DNS problem which forced Wikimedia to use backups in Florida. Reportedly all the Wikimedia’s servers are contained in its “pmtpa” cluster which hosts its co-location facility in Tampa, Florida and hence a minor technical difficulty in these headquarters leads to major difficulty in the site. Moreover, along with Wikipedia down the reputed You Tube and iTunes site also faced difficulty of cyber hacking. However, later the world’s reputed sites were restored by the officials.
