WordPress Plugin - Strip “nofollow” tag from comment URLs
By Angsuman Chakraborty, Gaea News NetworkMonday, March 7, 2005
Many of the bloggers, including myself, proactively (and successfully) take steps to prevent comment spam. We seriously doubt the efficacy of this measure in preventing comment spam. I believe in choice. Let the decision to allow/disallow nofollow be in the hands of the bloggers not WordPress authors.
ARTICLE CONTINUED BELOWThis plugin provides a way to remove the nofollow tags introduced automatically by the WordPress software in the URL’s in comments and comment authors. The implementation is as optimum as possible without altering the WordPress code.

I would agree not following links defeats the idea of a free Internet. Google hepped creat link spam by implementing their version of pagerank. Now because of link spam geared to pagerank, we are seeing no-follow tags. I really think now with search and the monetization of search and ads that we are seeing \”the tail wagging the dog\” here. |

It’s almost a little strange- the predominance of libertarianism online has dwindled over the past half-decade, yet it still pops its head up every once in a while and provokes odd posts like Kos’. There’s nothing in anything that Kos said that doesn’t make him a liberal; aside from the demonization of the term, why not simply argue that liberals and libertarians can make common cause against a conservative ideology that values neither egalitarianism nor liberty? |

We first make sure we’re looking at a very big opportunity and then look at the historical record,” said Hanson Gifford, head of The Foundry, a company that invents and incubates medical devices like the new device. “Certainly looking through the medical records is a lot cheaper than going and doing a bunch of human or animal studies.” |

All that means is that Google won’t give me credit for the link when it evaluates my PageRank. I speculated on the potential for abuse in the trackback system previously, and apparently the “nofollow” tag is the answer. My WordPress blog automatically inserts the nofollow tag in all external links in the comment and the commenter’s supplied website, and I would have to load a plugin to stop it. In short, it seems I can’t rely on trackbacks to sprinkle links throughout the Web and therefore increase my |

The project’s official name is “JVM Language Runtime”, rather than “Java Language Runtime”, and it’s intended to target *all* varieties of languages for the JVM. And yes, the name is a direct nod to the DLR (Dynamic Language Runtime) for the CLR, which is both a good idea and a good name. But we’d like to be all-inclusive, providing tools and frameworks for all varieties of languages. And rather than starting right away building a common base all languges must conform to, we’ll generalize existing solutions to common JVM language implementation challenges, drawing from the large existing base of already-implemented languages for the JVM. |

This means that the search engines wouldn’t follow the URL’s listed and hence a commenter wouldn’t get the benefit of commenting on this site by way of increasing their (websites) search engine rank (like Google rank). This is supposed to act as disincentive to comment spammers. Thanks man |

I would agree not following links defeats the idea of a free Internet. Google hepped creat link spam by implementing their version of pagerank. Now because of link spam geared to pagerank, we are seeing no-follow tags. I really think now with search and the monetization of search and ads that we are seeing \”the tail wagging the dog\” here |

With that said, I had came across some sites with an “I follow” banner, but can’t seem to find a good one now, I found some others that are not all that great, wondering if you had a preference? And with that, what on your thoughts on having one in the first place? Should we have one? Thanks. |

Good catch. For me it is a tradeoff. This blog is in the proceess of overhauling. At one time it was consuming lots of CPU, so I indiscriminately disabled a bunch of plugins hoping to speed up. Then I switched to wp-cache 2. It has its own share of problems. Anyway I am designing a new theme for this blog where I intend to re-enable this plugin again. But you know how it goes… it keeps getting delayed due to other commitments. I wish I had 48 hour day |

In short, it seems I can’t rely on trackbacks to sprinkle links throughout the Web and therefore increase my PageRank. But trackbacks could pull people here, and it they like my blog they can link here themselves. Tough, but fair.) [...] |
