EU fines Intel a record euro1.06 billion
BRUSSELS — The European Union has fined Intel Corp. a record euro1.06 billion ($1.44 billion) for monopoly abuse.
It is ordering the chip maker to halt sales tactics that it said blocked smaller rival AMD from selling computer chips.
The European Commission says the company gave price discounts to computer manufacturers Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo and NEC for buying all or almost all their chips from Intel.
It says Intel also paid them to stop or delay the launch of computers based on AMD chips.
