How To Lock Your Folder without a Software

Windows makes every thing too personal to be comfortable sometimes. Linux is still not an option to consider for many. So, is there a way to make your private information really private? Do you wanna lock and password protect some files inside a computer that can not be viewed by others? Of course you have software for that. But why would you like to have a software which can easily be done by a few tweaks. Here is a simple trick.

Trick

1.Suppose you have a folder named mhm in D:\mhm

2.In the same drive next to the folder create a new notepad file with the exact statement
ren mhm mhm.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

3.Now save this text file as loc.bat

4.Create another notepad file and type
ren mhm.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} mhm

5.Save this as key.bat

6.Now there are two batch files . Double click loc.bat and your folder will change into Control Panel and the contents inside the folder will not be obtainable simply.

7.To open the folder double click key.bat and you get back your original folder .

8. If you want, keep the file key.bat at some other place. Whenever you need to access that folder just copy and paste the file at the previous location and double click.

Isn’t it simple but effective?

The trick seems to work for some people here. What a pity it does not work for me.

Good trick, but I prefer the use of on the fly encryption software (for example True Crypt), of any file encryption software like “Advanced Enryption Package.”

Only real encryption guarantees the real security of files… not simple tricks

Hi Soumya
it works . But there is one problem which one guy has
already told that if u just delete the extension(.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}) one can access the folder contents. That way it is not safe.
I think we are just renaming the folder in Lock.bat file.
Is there any other way out .
I have tried this on windows XP. Not sure whether it works for vista or not.
Thanks,
Akshay Bali

It works thanks, but i would better go for desksense. The beta version is free, but its only for a limited period. ..lol. Its much more secured than using your own tricks. They even got Usb Lock,File lock an website block. Quite a useful one.
Url: https://www.desksense.com
But either ways ..thanks.

IT DOES NOT WORKS
WASTE OF TIME

AND I GUESS A BETTER OPTION IS TO GO TO TOOLS AND SELECT FOLDER OPTIONS AND THEN VIEW AND THEN HIDE THE FOLDERS.

ANYWAYS ITS ONLY FOR HIDING THE FOLDERS ……..

it works ……..
but on clicking right n going in properties of mhm forlder which now works as a control panel as u specified but if u del {21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}dis part following folder name ie mhm den apply the required changes . it will b treated as ordinary folder and all the data can be accessed. widout double clicking on key batch file . so dis way u can open it .so i think its not safe ……..

this technique doesn’t work.. it simply create 2 batch files of no uses…if u r simply making database of emails to send ur mails then its a good technique..lols..
