Diabetes Cure Possible

Cure for diabetes could be around the corner after US scientists found cells from the spleen can transform into insulin-producing cells. US researchers were able to halt, and even reverse, the disease in mice.

The research by Massachusetts General Hospital offers hope to millions of people with Type 1 diabetes who need daily insulin injections to survive. They hope to begin human trial soon.

Dr David Nathan, director of the hospital’s Diabetes Center, said: “These exciting findings in a mouse model of Type 1 diabetes suggest that patients who are developing this disease could be rescued from further destruction of their insulin-producing cells. In addition, patients with fully established diabetes possibly could have their diabetes reversed.”

Hi! I hope this is possible. I belong to a clan with diabetes. Fortunately, I am still negative on it. My father is Type 1 diabetic. He is into insulin regularly and I see the hassle it causes him. I just hope there will be a cure to Type 1 diabetes, if not all type of the disease. Thanks for this post.

Cure in type 1 diabetes is limited to symptomatic treatment and maintenance of blood sugar levels with insulin. As management of type 1 diabetes is completely dependent on exogenous insulin in most of the cases. The ideal treatment would be to allow the person to lead a completely normal life, to remain not only symptoms free but in good health, to achieve a normal metabolic state and to escape the complications associated with long term diabetes.

I strongly believe that diabetes cure is out there already but not being approved/made public to protect some special interest group.

For type I, I believe it may be soon. For type II however, it is quite a ways off.
