Web site tracks policy changes at popular sites
A new Web site unveiled Thursday will track policies imposed by popular Internet sites such as Facebook and Google, hoping to help users spot potentially harmful changes. TOSBack.org, the brainchild of privacy advocacy group Electronic Frontier Foundation, will track terms of service modifications within hours of an update.
Intel, an infrequent acquirer, snaps up Wind River
SAN FRANCISCO — Intel Corp. is biting off its biggest acquisition in nearly a decade with an $884 million takeover of Wind River Systems Inc., a software maker with a colorful past. Wind River's software started as a way to help Francis Ford Coppola edit movies, and has since been used in NASA's Mars rovers, fighter-jet control panels, TV set-top boxes and mobile devices.
Sony becomes 2nd label on Vevo music video site
LOS ANGELES — Recording company Sony Music Entertainment has joined Vevo, an online music video site due to launch this year with the backing of Universal Music Group and YouTube. The music unit of Sony Corp. will take an equity stake in the venture. The other two major recording companies, Warner Music Group Corp. and EMI Group PLC, are also in talks on joining.
Sears, FTC to settle personal data allegations
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — The Federal Trade Commission announced a preliminary settlement Thursday with retailer Sears Holdings Corp. over allegations the merchant failed to disclose how much personal information it was collecting from a group of consumers. The finding, which resolves a complaint against Sears Holdings Management Corp., isn't an admission that the retailer broke any laws.
