Just a day after @anywhere platform was launched by Twitter for owners to have rich integrations with Twitter.com without having to visit the site, Digg announced its support for open standards. According to the Digg blog, the Social news website will go for a complete makeover in the coming months. Of the most interesting change, members will be able to Log in to Digg from a variety of third-party sites. Currently the site supports Digg and Facebook accounts, after the overhaul it will allow users with Twitter, Google, Yahoo and Open ID accounts to login.

Digg move is based on the research that looks into the services their members are already using. This is clear from data provided in Digg blog as below  that shows a significant overlap stats between the services used by members.

Digg’s approach seems to be influenced by the fact that Facebook Connect integration filliped their registrations by 20 to 30 percent. With Digg support for open standard adding Twitter login and more, the site expects to span a larger audience tagged to other social network.
